Brother of the Riyadh video girl confirms her beating by the Haia members
RIYADH – The brother of the girl who was allegedly beaten by two members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Haia) on Tuesday at a mall in the west of Riyadh confirmed the events to Sabaq electronic newspaper
The brother, who was not identified, said the two Hai’a members asked his sister, who was sitting outside the place, to enter into the mall. He said his sister was working in this mall and when she entered, the members followed her inside the place and started beating her.
The brother said after the security patrol had arrived, his sister was rushed to the hospital suffering from bruises and broken finger nails.
“My sister was sitting outside the place in which she works. The Haia men stopped by her and asked her to go inside. She told that she could not go back without permission. Some of her other women colleagues came out and documented the incident by video taping. This action might have exasperated the Haia men who started beating her on the pretext that she filmed them without any respect for the rules and regulations,” he said.
The brother said the two Haia members dragged his sister outside again and continued to beat her breaking her finger nails, causing her bruises all over her body. “She was also hit on the jaw,” he added.
The brother said he came running to intervene after she called him and told him about the incident.
He said the Haia men and the security patrol have both written their reports about the incident which he had also recorded in a video clip on his mobile phone.
The brother said he had eyewitnesses and will obtain a medical report from the hospital to which his sister was transported.
He said the Haia men confiscated their mobiles but returned them afterwards. “How these people entered the mall which is solely dedicated for women?, he questioned.
The brother said the case will continue until justice is done.
“We appreciate the Haia men but are they not content with only giving advice according to the rules and regulations instead of resorting to physical abuse on defenseless women?” he asked.
