JEDDAH: A fire that broke out in an oil tanker as the result of a traffic accident on the Makkah-Jeddah Expressway claimed the life of one and set fire to three other vehicles due to leakage from the tanker.
A Civil Defense spokesman said that they received a report at 1 a.m. on Friday stating that a 33-ton oil tanker caught fire as the result of a traffic accident on the highway.
Despite the high temperatures coming from the fire, the incident was contained and there was no explosion as the tanker was cooled by the attending Civil Defense teams.
The spokesman said that the highway, as well as safe routes, were secured in coordination with security authorities.
He said that the accident resulted in the death of one person inside a burning car.
The case was handed over to the appropriate authorities to complete the necessary procedures.
