The Saudi Embassy in Austria has appealed to Saudis including visitors to that country to adhere to the new law of the country banning the niqab or any cover on their facial features effective from Oct. 1, 2017.
The embassy announced in its Twitter account that the Austrian parliament’s law with regard to integration and face covering with veil or niqab stipulated that anyone covering their faces with veil or niqab at public places will be penalized with a fine. Hence, the embassy appealed to anyone who intended to visit Austria to be aware of the law, Ajel online daily reported on Wednesday.
France became the first European country to ban the full-face veil officially in 2010. Bans are also in place in Belgium and some parts of Switzerland, while other European countries have debated the issue, CNN reported in January.
